The French startup will integrate Sateliot’s 5G IoT satellite network into its OXI beacon, ensuring global safety and messaging for explorers.
Sateliot, the leading 5G IoT satellite constellation delivering standards based connectivity from space, announces a collaboration with the tech startup Outdoor Aficionados, a company developing advanced navigation and safety hybrid communication solutions in off-grid conditions (explorers, hikers, after disaster areas, remote workers). The alliance will integrate 5G-standard satellite connectivity directly into OXI, their innovative safety beacon for outdoor adventurers.
The goal is to solve the primary challenge in off-grid conditions: communication and safe navigation in remote areas. The OXI beacon, which functions as a smart case for smartphones, transforms the phone into an off-grid navigation and safety advanced tool.
Thanks to this agreement, the device will integrate Sateliot’s technology, enabling users to:
Send SOS Messages: An emergency beacon (SOS) functionality that works worldwide.
Peer-to-peer communication: Send and receive short text messages and location data to nearby users, using their own mobile phone app (hazard notifications or SOS requests)
Low Power Consumption: The 5G NB-IoT technology is designed for minimal energy consumption, which is essential for long expeditions.
Send hazard alerts in the network: alert the community on site on wild fires, landslides, floods or dangerous wild animals nearby
Both companies connected last September at “Deutsche Telekom’s Multi Orbit EAP Kickoff” in Bonn (Germany), where over 50 industry leaders came together to drive the future of global IoT connectivity through cutting-edge satellite solutions.
“The Outdoor Aficionados solution is brilliant because it integrates with the functionality of a smartphone in a natural way and offers a hybrid solution that covers the communication gap” stated Gianluca Redolfi, CCO of Sateliot. “We are delighted to provide the global 5G connectivity that will make their OXI product reliable anywhere in the world.”
Valentin Precup, CEO founder of Outdoor Aficionados added: “Adding Sateliot’s 5G NB-IoT connectivity to our OXI beacon allows us to empower our solution, an all-in-one safety beacon and native app that helps you to navigate and communicate in off-grid conditions. No matter what! This collaboration is a key step in universalizing safety in outdoor environments and demonstrates the potential of 5G satellite IoT.
