- Also approves proposing the appointment of José María García Orois as a board observer on behalf of SETT
Barcelona, December 11, 2025 – Sateliot’s Board of Directors, a leading satellite telecommunications operator for 5G connectivity, has today agreed to propose to the General Shareholders’ Meeting the appointment of Meritxell Batet as an independent director, and has acknowledged the designation of José María García Orois as a board observer representing the Spanish Society for Technological Transformation (SETT), where he serves as Director of Business Development. Batet’s appointment will be submitted for ratification at the Shareholders’ Meeting scheduled for the last week of the year.
The appointment of Meritxell Batet as an independent director is in line with the Code of Good Corporate Governance Practices, contributing to the strengthening of the principles of transparency, institutional rigor, and independence in decision-making, in line with Sateliot’s objectives to consolidate its leadership and strengthen its governance model.
The appointment of José María García Orois as an observer reflects the strengthening of Sateliot’s shareholder base following SETT’s €13.8 million investment in the €70 million Series B round closed by the company in March. With a 16.3% stake, SETT, together with Sepides (2.4%), consolidates the direct institutional participation of the Spanish State in the company at 18.7% of the share capital, complemented by the support of industrial and financial partners such as Indra, Cellnex, Global Portfolio Investments, and the defense-focused fund Hyperion Fund.
Batet holds a law degree from Pompeu Fabra University, where she was a professor of Constitutional Law. Born in Barcelona in 1973, she brings a high-level profile with strong geostrategic, institutional, and academic analytical capabilities—having served as Minister for Territorial Policy and Public Administration (2018–2019) and as President of the Congress of Deputies (2019–2023)—as well as private-sector corporate governance experience as an independent director at Ebro Foods.
García Orois holds a degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the University of the Basque Country and an MBA from EAE Business School. He brings a high-level technical and strategic profile, with extensive experience in technology consulting and innovation project management. He currently serves as Director of Business Development at SETT, leading investments in strategic technologies.
According to Jaume Sanpera, CEO of Sateliot, “Meritxell Batet’s experience provides regulatory expertise, public-private dialogue capabilities, and strategic vision, while José María García Orois adds experience in business development, technology, and innovation, strengthening our ability to execute complex projects. The combination of both profiles is key to driving Sateliot’s technological and international expansion.”
This year, Sateliot successfully completed the first standard 5G IoT transmission from space between its low-Earth orbit (LEO) constellation and a commercial device. Recently, it inaugurated in Barcelona the first European 5G Satellite Development Center and is progressing with Tritó, its new generation of satellites—approximately 4 meters in size and weighing 150 kg—capable of connecting IoT devices and mobile phones (data, voice, and video) and providing dual-use services for civilian applications as well as security and defense.
