The agreement will enable the country’s first LEO satellite connection in these sectors, laying the groundwork for large-scale deployment.
Barcelona, September 1, 2026. Sateliot, a leading 5G NTN LEO satellite telecommunications operator, and Grupo Constanta, made up of the companies Laager, Nexum and HartBR, together with the Instituto Constanta de Inovação (ICI) / NEPEN, one of Brazil’s largest providers of IoT solutions and devices, have signed a strategic alliance to bring satellite connectivity to the group’s IoT devices, with an initial focus on Brazil’s utilities and energy sector. The alliance will enable the country’s first satellite IoT deployment in energy distribution infrastructure.
The initial phase will begin later this year with a demonstration marking the country’s first LEO satellite connection in this sector, laying the groundwork to later extend satellite connectivity to key verticals such as public lighting, smart grids and energy, energy efficiency, sanitation, and agriculture.
Because Sateliot’s network is compatible with the 3GPP standards that govern terrestrial NB-IoT, enabling a device for LEO NTN satellite connectivity is a matter of certification and configuration rather than hardware redesign. This means that, at no additional cost to the device, ground equipment also gains satellite connectivity. Constanta is completing this enablement process, which will allow the device to connect through terrestrial networks where available, and through Sateliot’s satellite constellation where they are not.
Thanks to this milestone in national technological development and the expansion of Brazil’s connectivity network, the companies will be able to connect devices in the country’s most remote areas, enabling asset monitoring, early fault detection, optimized maintenance, and fewer field visits. The result will be more efficient infrastructure management and a more reliable service for citizens, businesses, and public authorities.
“Standards-based LEO satellite connectivity is opening new opportunities for countries with large territories and growing digital ambitions. Brazil is one of the clearest examples of this potential, and we are excited to contribute to its next phase of growth,” says Gianluca Redolfi, CCO of Sateliot.
“Brazil needs connectivity solutions capable of reaching where traditional networks cannot. This alliance with Sateliot will allow us to extend the reach of our IoT solutions and help our customers digitalize critical infrastructure that has, until now, remained unconnected,” says Roberval Tavares, CEO of Constanta.
With this alliance, Sateliot continues its strategy of partnering with local players to extend mobile coverage through standards-based 5G NTN LEO technology, allowing IoT devices to connect via satellite seamlessly in areas with no terrestrial coverage today.
Brazil, a strategic market for satellite IoT
Water, gas, and energy utility operators manage infrastructure such as transmission lines, substations, pipelines, and remote metering points, spread across wide areas of Brazilian territory. According to data from Anatel and GSMA, between 80% and 82% of Brazil’s territory remains outside effective cellular coverage, a gap that limits the digitalization of asset monitoring and fault detection precisely in the regions where critical infrastructure operates. Sateliot and Constanta identified this sector as their initial joint market based on this coverage gap, with plans to extend the partnership to other verticals. This lack of connectivity makes remote management of critical infrastructure more difficult, raises operating costs, and slows incident detection and resolution.
About Sateliot
Sateliot is a European satellite telecommunications company headquartered in Barcelona, founded in 2018. The company deployed the first LEO satellite constellation under the 3GPP standard (Release 17 NTN), allowing commercial NB-IoT devices to connect directly from space without any modification. Its technology seamlessly integrates terrestrial and satellite networks to deliver affordable IoT connectivity in remote areas and places where conventional infrastructure does not reach. As a strategic player for European digital sovereignty, Sateliot promotes secure, global, and accessible connectivity, and in this context plans to launch its next-generation Tritó satellites in 2027.
